What is SALMIAC? Salmiak (salmiac) is a traditional Scandinavian liquorice flavour made using ammonium chloride, giving a distinctive salty, tangy taste that can feel strong or nasal to those not used to it. It is made with ammonium chloride, a salt with a sharp, salty, slightly bitter taste. It is not ammonia, although it can create an ammonia-like sensation in the nose for some people.
